Meaning
Continuous measurement of fluid thickness and flow resistance directly within a production pipeline. Inline viscosimetry provides real time data on the rheological state of battery slurries or adhesives during the manufacturing process. It eliminates the need to take manual samples for laboratory analysis.
Measurement Physics
Torsional oscillators or vibrating rods sense the drag exerted by the liquid as it passes through the sensor housing. In the context of inline viscosimetry, the frequency shift or damping effect is converted into a viscosity reading. These sensors must be durable enough to withstand the abrasive nature of electrode materials.
Process Control
Maintaining a constant thickness is necessary for the quality of the coating on the current collector foil. If inline viscosimetry detects a thinning of the slurry, the system can automatically adjust the solvent addition or mixing speed. This closed loop control ensures that every meter of the electrode has a uniform weight.
Operational Benefit
Reducing the delay between a material change and the corrective action prevents the production of scrap. Since inline viscosimetry monitors the fluid under actual operating pressures and temperatures, the data is more representative of the coating process than a benchtop test. High speed production lines rely on this information to maintain stability across different batches of raw materials.
