Meaning
Flexible heating elements made from a high-performance polymer provide uniform thermal energy to flat or curved surfaces. Polyimide heating film is a thin and durable material used to warm battery cells or packs through resistive heating. It consists of an etched foil circuit sandwiched between two layers of polyimide, which is known for its high dielectric strength and thermal stability.
This film allows for precise heat application in the tight spaces found within modern battery modules.
Material Property
Polymer insulation resists chemicals and maintains its mechanical integrity across a wide temperature range. A polyimide heating film can operate effectively from extremely low temperatures up to several hundred degrees Celsius. This durability makes it suitable for both cold-weather preheating and high-performance applications where reliability is the main concern.
Heat Distribution
Even application of warmth across the entire surface of a cell prevents the formation of localized hot spots. Because polyimide heating film is so thin, it adds very little bulk or weight to the battery pack. This low profile is a primary reason for its selection in aerospace and automotive battery designs.
Application Method
Pressure-sensitive adhesives or mechanical clamping hold the film in direct contact with the target surface to maximize thermal transfer. This polyimide heating film integration ensures that the battery reaches its optimal operating temperature as quickly as possible. The low mass of the film itself means that almost all the energy goes directly into the battery chemistry.
