Meaning
Transmission lines constructed with an internal conductor surrounded by a concentric insulating layer and a metallic shield. A coaxial signal path maintains signal integrity by confining electromagnetic fields within the dielectric space between the two conductors. High precision battery testing relies on this geometry to minimize external interference during low current measurements.
Shielding Effectiveness
External electromagnetic fields induce currents only on the outer surface of the shield which then drain to ground without affecting the central signal wire. This isolation prevents crosstalk between adjacent measurement channels in high density test racks where dozens of cables run in parallel. Clean data acquisition depends on this physical separation of the sensitive signal from the noisy environment.
Impedance Matching
Dimensional consistency of the dielectric layer determines the characteristic resistance of the cable. When the source impedance matches the line, signal reflections are avoided. Such reflections otherwise distort pulse testing results in lithium ion cell characterization.
Grounding Architecture
Connection to a single point ground prevents the formation of loops that introduce hum or offset. Proper termination at the instrument interface ensures that the return path remains isolated from the chassis. Reliable data transfer is achieved through this controlled return circuit.
