Meaning
Analytical procedure for monitoring pressure variations across a surface in real time. Engineers use dynamic force mapping to track the expansion of electrode stacks during the charge cycle. Sensors placed between cells in a pack record the localized stress points that occur as ions enter the anode.
Sensor Configuration
Tactile arrays provide the resolution needed to identify uneven expansion. These thin film sensors respond to changes in resistance or capacitance across thousands of individual nodes. Every node sends a signal to a central processor for reconstruction into a visual map of the load.
Pack Evaluation
Structural integrity depends on how well the housing contains these internal loads. When dynamic force mapping shows a high concentration of pressure in the center of a module, the design team may add reinforcement ribs to prevent housing deformation. Excessive localized pressure often correlates with accelerated lithium plating or separator damage.
Mechanical constraints must accommodate these forces to prevent cell breach. Validation happens when the measured force stays within the elastic limit of the module frame throughout the entire range of state of charge.
Cycle Analysis
Long term monitoring reveals how the cell changes over hundreds of cycles. Initial readings typically show a uniform distribution while later stages of life exhibit chaotic patterns due to solid electrolyte interphase growth. This change informs the end of life prediction for the battery system.
