Meaning
The initialization of a measurement sensor establishes the reference point from which all subsequent displacement or force data are calculated. Performing a zero baseline setting ensures that the sensor output reads exactly zero under the starting test conditions. This calibration step takes place before the application of load or the start of electrochemical cycling.
It forms the foundation for all relative measurements made during the test.
Initialization Procedure
The operator must ensure that the test specimen is in a relaxed state before defining the starting point. For a zero baseline setting, the load cell must register zero force, and the displacement sensor must be positioned at its nominal starting point. The test software then captures the current electrical voltage and assigns it the value of zero.
This action clears any residual offsets from previous test runs.
Offset Tracking
Monitoring the shift in the baseline at the end of a test cycle provides a measure of system drift. This feedback helps operators determine if the sensor requires mechanical adjustment or replacement. Persistent offset shifts indicate electronic degradation or mechanical loosening of the fixture.
Measurement Stability
Ensuring a clean baseline avoids the propagation of errors in subsequent calculations. This stability is critical for measuring very small changes in thick electrodes.
