Meaning
Transmission frequency defines the number of data packets sent from a monitoring system to a remote receiver within a given second. Higher speeds allow for the capture of transient events that a slower clock would miss entirely. This setting determines the resolution of the digital twin maintained in the cloud.
Granularity
Granularity of the time series data enables the detection of micro-shorts or intermittent sensor failures. If the telemetry frame rate is set too low, the system might average out a critical voltage spike. A rate of ten hertz is typically sufficient for monitoring general pack health during operation.
Network Load
Volume of information generated impacts the cost and reliability of the wireless connection. A high telemetry frame rate consumes cellular bandwidth and can lead to data buffering or loss. Engineers must balance the need for high-resolution data with the operational cost of the data plan.
Resolution Limit
Minimum required frequency depends on the specific event the system is designed to detect. For thermal runaway prevention, the telemetry frame rate must be fast enough to trigger an alarm before the chemical reaction becomes self-sustaining and spreads to adjacent cells. This ensures that safety protocols have enough time to engage effectively by disconnecting the load or activating the fire suppression hardware.
Monitoring high speed transients in the electrical bus also requires a faster rate to identify arcing or insulation failures before they damage the control electronics.
